"Eating is an agricultural act." -Wendell Berry
We offer a variety of fresh and frozen food products, always humanely and ecologically raised. We are always taking on new projects to see how they fit into our system. Because of this, our "menu" might not be the same year-round, or from one year to the next. Check in periodically to see what's new to try!
Golden-yolked goodness is what you'll find in a carton of Moosehorn Mountain Farm eggs. We use only Organic, Soy-Free grains and fresh forage to feed our flock (all Organic grain is also non-GMO). Our flock is raised rotationally on pasture when the climate permits, which keeps our hens active and our grasslands healthy and productive. The birds always have fresh, clean pasture to forage, and the grass is never damaged by over-grazing. In the winter, our hens live in a luxurious double-decker coop, with access to outdoors every day. Their winter diet is supplemented with Organic sprouted whole grains. We have over 20 different breeds of egg laying chickens, which means we have some amazing diversity among our eggs. No two dozen are quite the same, but all are equally delicious! Moosehorn Mountain Farm eggs are Animal Welfare Approved.
Rabbit meat has the highest protein content and lowest fat of any commercially consumed meat, making it healthy and satisfying. Did you know that all rabbit fat is completely unhydrogenated? Moosehorn Mountain Farm rabbits are humanely raised on a healthy diet, with lots of natural sunlight and fresh air. We are currently developing a program for pasture-raised, Organic rabbit. You won't find rabbit like this anywhere else! Most of our rabbits are an American heritage breed called Silver Fox, a wonderful dual purpose commercial breed that was pushed to the brink of extinction during the rise of industrial agriculture. We currently offer ready-to-cook "whole" rabbits with giblets. Cooking a rabbit is just like roasting a chicken, any of your favorite chicken recipes will make great rabbit dishes, too. We love to use the crock pot for a set-it-and-forget-it rabbit dinner. You just can't go wrong!
Our heritage breed Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs play a very important role in our farm system. For most of the grazing season, the pigs move through paddocks that are partially pasture, and partially forest. This allows them to fully express all of their natural behaviors, while also providing them with a great diversity of forage. In the summer time, the pigs are fed almost completely by the forage of our land, supplemented with "waste" farm products, like cracked eggs. In the winter, their diet consists mostly of sprouted Organic whole grains, and some Organic pelleted feed. We offer a variety of USDA pork products, including pork chops, smoked bacon, ham steaks, and 3 different types of sausage (all made with Organic, Vermont-grown spices!). Organ meats, roasts, whole hams and special cuts are available upon request, contact us to get on the waiting list for these items!
